Under the Water (P & CP) Act 1974 and Air (P & CP) Act 1981, industries, operations, or processes that may discharge sewerage, trade effluents, or emit air pollution must obtain consent from the State Pollution Control Board. Similarly, industries generating, storing, transporting, disposing, or handling hazardous waste as defined in the Hazardous Waste (Handling and Management) Rules 1989 (amended in 2000) need authorization from the MPCB. Additionally, medical institutions producing biomedical waste as per the Biomedical Waste (Management and Handling) Rules 1989 require authorization under these rules. These regulatory frameworks ensure proper management of waste and pollution control to protect public health and the environment.
